Scam Buster
This number is now being used within follow up scam emails to Production Assistant and Videographer/Editor job post applications for "Yellow Brick Films" on climber.com and newmediahire.com. The scammers are posing as the legitimate film production company "Yellow Brick Films" and names of two of their team members (within the emails) in an elaborate scam. The emails boast wanting to send the job applicant a check for travel expenses to attend an all expenses paid pre-production meeting. The check is to be cashed by the recipient and then a portion of the check is to be transferred to their "travel agent".

Son Almost Scammed
These guys sent my son a check for $2,556 then hounded him to transfer $1,900 to an Agent in Dallas when the job was supposedly in NY. Then "The Director" kept texting him that the "Travel Agent" needed $500 more right away. Now the Agent was in Mobile, Alabama. They force you to use Money Gram so it can't be traced. They actually got angry with my Son when he said he could wire it for free from our Bank instead of Money Gram. First of all what legitimate Director does their own Human Resource work. And the language, quality of writing and syntax of the text appeared to be coming from someone for who English is not their first language. They claimed to be Richard Gray of Yellow Brick Films. Richard Gray is Australian. Stay away from anything to do with something like this.

This is just another version of the check over payment scam - I'm glad you or you son didn't fall for it!

More info:

http://www.consumerfraudreporting.org/checkcashingscams.php
http://www.bankingquestions.com/checksyoureceived/2009/q_0827_fraudulent.html

The FTC offers the following tips for avoiding the check overpayment scam:

Know who you’re dealing with – independently confirm your buyer’s name, street address, and telephone number.

If you’re selling something over the Internet, say “no” to a check for more than your selling price, no matter how tempting the plea or convincing the story.

There is no legitimate reason for someone who is giving you money to ask you to wire money back.

More advice on how to be on guard against Internet fraud is available atOnGuardOnline.gov.

Consumers are asked to report check overpayment scams to their state Attorney General, the National Fraud Information Center/Internet Fraud Watch, a service of the National Consumers League at www.fraud.org or 1-800-876-7060, or the FTC atwww.ftc.gov or 1-877-FTC-HELP.
