My parents contacted me about this number. Apparently this organization has been calling my folks (separated in and different states) and grandparents attempting to locate me. So I called the number back today and spoke with "Investigator Horns." She said it was about a bad check written in November of 2005. When I pressed for further information, she said she was not at liberty to discuss the details to protect the confidentiality of their "Client." Well I called back again and got a voicemail which said the company is "District Investigative - Criminal Division." I finally got in touch with Investigator Horns again and she said I sounded like a decent person and willing to remedy a bad situation so she would do something she normally doesn't--she would let me talk to the mediator in charge of my case. So she put me in touch with Scott Chambers of Stanford Mediation. He provided me some information that sounded legitimate, but he kept telling me that he wasn't sure if my case could be stopped before an arrest warrant was issued. My defenses immediately went up because I know for a fact that the only entity that can issue an arrest warrant is a judge or justice of the peace. I will have to say that I think this is a scam, and I welcome him to refer my case for a warrant. I've already referred him and his ilk to my state's attorney general's office.
This organization also contacted me. They left a message on my voice mail. I thought it was a scam at first because I read what you wrote, Meg. However, when she told me about a check that I knew that I written, I had second thoughts.. Since nobody was standing over me when I wrote this check to know that I wrote it also I had gotten stop for speeding a couple of years back and there was a warrant on me for check fraud in which I believe my roommate had done, I decided to take their warning and run.. It took alot for me to get out of that jamm previously.. I receive paperwork once I handle this situation so it won't come up again. A scam. Well I don't think so. I looked up Stanford Mediations and found them. Tell me. How did the warrant for check fraud get applied to me a couple of years back? There wasn't any judge or justice of peace around me when they claim I wrote those checks.
company call me to tell me that i would be sent to Jail if i did not pay for a check that i wrote in 2005.They said i must pay the money today.3/17/2011. The check was 273.83. They said i must pay 498.00 or i will be sent to jail that night. I talk to a Mr. Scott Champs. Then i talk to a women she would not let me talk. I was on my way to my cancer Dr. when i got there my blood pressure was so high i had to sit foe a while i was so up set. the number was 1 888 502 0277. Ext 7103. 202 1397.
I got the same call....they somehow got my wife's aunts name and number and called her. Not even sure how they got that info. This is ridiculous. But they basically said the same thing "you sound like an honest person, We have filed a warrant for your arrest(I know thats false because I have family in the police department and they just told me they seen NOTHING) Seems like scare tactics.....I DO know this is no longer on my credit, and because of that in MY mind there is nothing I need to pay. Its strange that all of us had checks from 2005....and if I remember correctly that check was no more than $200....they told me I had to pay $588 in order to "call off the hounds" because of fees they have incurred.....seems to me that they wasted a LOT of money to recover something that was so small....
