Another favorite CL scam is the fake $100 bills. I had a lady with a fake pregnant belly try to buy a shelf from me for $40 and then she gave me a hundred dollar bill. My initial reaction all along the way was that something was off about her. The belly looked fake and she was moving when she was 9 months pregnant. Anyway, when she handed me the bill, the first thing in my head was the word "FAKE." I told her that I didn't have the change (even though I did) and she raced out of there as fast as she could. Someone told me that they buy those for $1 a stack. And, their whole purpose is to buy something around $20-$30 and get the $70-$80 in change from you. I always ask someone to bring small bills with them. Only if it's a huge purchase are hundreds acceptable.

I'm selling something on craigslist and this guy "Jerry" at (682) 292-8370 sent me the same message that he would send a cashiers check and then would I would give the extra cash to his mover who would also pick up my item! Too bad I gave him my full name.
Thanks for posting this. He's also asked me to text him. I would never accept a cashiers check or money order from someone I didn't know. You are better off with a regular bank check. Criminals are very good at faking cashiers checks and money orders, so good that they can even fool the bank initially. Regular bank checks take 3 - 5 days to clear and will NEVER come back once they clear (as long as from a bank in the USA). I always count 6 days from the day I deposit to be sure. Criminals will never want to send a regular bank check. Also, always ship by USPS, they will get it to the door and get a signature, if needed. UPS and FED-EX early morning delivery is a favorite way for criminals. They stand outside in the shadows and wait for the truck and pop out front and sign for the package. Usually, this is when they have stolen the credit card.
