They call me multiple times per day. I tried their "Press 2 to be placed on the no call list" but I think when you do that, it's just proof that you're a human so they keep calling you. Their recorded greeting is "Press 1 now to claim your prize!!" so I tried that (Just to get a hold of a human) but immediately I get a different recording that says "Thank you, goodbye".
They are either people trying to scam us, or people verifying that your phone number is active so they can sell it to other companies.
I worker for a telemarketing company for a couple weeks and they literally buy your phone number from companies that found your phone number on a form you filled out, or off your Facebook. If they are unsuccessful in contacting you/selling something to you then they sell your number to ANOTHER company. Once your phone number is getting passed around, it's like a freakin STD. It's never going to stop.
I just got a call from 702-359-5643 and no one said a thing on the other end. I said 'hello' twice and no one said a thing, like they were just hanging on. I saw that this number is for student-loan forgiveness. I haven't been to school in years and have no educational debt.
Funny thing is, I got this call when I was feeling very emotional. Like someone knew to call so I'd be angry. I've gotten a lot of mysterious calls like this, with no voice on the other end, right when I'm feeling a little crisis in my head. How strange.
Please thumbs up this message so we can inform as many people as possible.
The phone number 702-359-5643 belongs to a US based company called Select Student Loan Help - http://selectstudentloanhelp.com/apply-now/ - phone 1-866-848-4072.
A female answered and confirmed that 702-359-5643 is a "third party company" they use to telemarket their supposed debt relief for US citizens.
This company is not compliant with US regulations.
I don't know what, if anything, our Canadian government can do to stop this. I know protection under our Do Not Call List does NOT extend to companies in the US or any other country.
Please let me know of any suggestions. All I can think of is downloading a free app with a free phone number and calling them at 1-866-848-4072 to harass them back. The other option is to submit a Better Business Bureau complaint here - http://www.bbb.org/losangelessiliconvalley/bu ... geles-ca-349304
