I got a call from them the other day talking about a debt I had years ago. Didn't remember the credit card. And I told them I wasn't going to pay anything to anyone until I verify the account is legit. I got a copy of my credit report free and the account was on there. So, I called the original credit card company and verified through multiple different companies that they do have the rights to collect this account. So, I called them back and offered to settle with them. They were very understanding and respectful. They also said for every account they settle they donate $25 to a charity of my choice. I don't know any company that does that.
BEFORE YOU PAID ANYTHING OR CALLED THEM BACK AT THAT YOU SHOULD ALWAYS CHECK THE STAUTE OF LIMITATIONS IN YOUR STATE IF IT HAS EXPIRED NO ONE AND I MEAN NO COMPANY HAS A RIGHT TO CALL YOU OR CONTACT YOU.THEY ARE PROABLY A 3RD PARTY THAT BOUGHT YOUR ACCOUNT FROM THE ORIGINAL COMPANY. THEY CALLED ME ALSO BUT I KNOW THE LAWS FOR TEXAS WHERE I LIVE.AND ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SEND THEM A LETTER LETTING THEM KNOW THAT THE STATUE OF LIMITATIONS HAS EXPIRED IF IN FACT IF HAS. AND BY LAW THEY CAN NOT CONTACT YOU OR ANY FAMILY MEMBERS.
I was advised by my wife that there was documents that were scheduled to be delivered to my home address....she said there was a # to the firm that was handling this case. I contacted them the next day while i was at work, said there firms name was GPFS and that they were looking to pursue legal action against me for a balance that i left with credit one bank.......i remembered the account and the amount i spent was just over 900 bucks......i knew there was no way i could pay 900 because i only work part time now. The man that i spoke to told me he would wipe away the interest on the account and lower the amount to 400 bucks if i could take care of it now. I asked him for a letter from their firm before i gave them any information. He told me that wasnt a problem, and I received an email within 45 minutes, showing what we has spoken about. I paid the 400 and soon later received a "paid in full" letter from their office. I mailed that letter to experian credit bureau. and they actually updated that account to PAID on my credit report........im not sure what experiences everyone else had.....but mine seemed to be pleasant.....i know i sure couldnt have paid the 900, PLUS my wife and I are looking to purchase a home here soon, so i need all the help on my credit that i can get.......good luck to the rest of you
