We just got the SAME call again today at about 1:30 pm. Caller ID said, "Wireless Caller." Don't know ANYONW in the 703 area code. So didn't pick it up. Leave us the [***] alone!
Well, they are back again. 703-478-4837. Claiming to be from the National Police Association. I answered this morning, said not interested and hung up. They called back, I hung up. Just called again. I answered and left the phone open for a few minutes and here is what the guy said: "Oh, it's a phone stalker. That's what we call you people who answer the phone but don't say anything. You are kinda psycho, aren't you? You live at (he then named my address) and your name is (he stated my full name). You're psychotic. Hey, I've got a psycho here! Here's the thing, Debra - we have a little button for auto dial and we will just keep calling back, you psycho." At this point my husband came in and I handed the phone to him. The guy said "Oh, I was calling for Debra and she answered but didn't say anything. I thought it was strange. Was about ready to send a unit to check on her to see if she had a heart attack or something." My husband asked what it was about and the guy started his pitch for the donation and when my husband said "not interested," he said "who are YOU? We called for Debra! We'll just keep calling back." And then he hung up. Wow - this was very weird and unsettling. I blocked the number, just as I have the last few years, but they will call again from another cell phone. I don't like the threats! Has anyone been able to identify the source of the calls and get the real police involved?
Bravo, Debra. For all intents and purposes, I would most certainly argue that the person constantly calling you is the real psycho and a very twisted, suspect individual. After all, you have NEVER called them, nor have you even made the slightest effort to ascertain their proper phone number in order to do so. If I may, there is one tactic you may consider utilizing. As a tried and true practice in reverse psychology, you should write them ridiculous sounding emails and shower them with affection in the hopes that they will deter and cease their stalkeresque phone behavior and, if they wish to do so, learn how to communicate with you in a conventional, mature, and honest manner. I have more to profess on this subject, but I'll save it for another, more appropriate time.
I got so many calls from this group (also Sheriffs Assn, and similar labor unions) that I finally looked up the tax filing of one of them, which a non profit must make open to the public to maintain its tax free status. I was disillusioned to see that the vast majority of their total revenue was spent on conferences, picnics, a new building, and benefits for their own members and families. Very little went to one single small public education program, another requirement of their tax status. I support my local police directly. the Charity Navigator web site can be very helpful with information about a large number of non profits/charities.
