Incoming call showed 800-829-1040, which is the IRS Telephone Assistance number. Caller claimed a legal petition for tax fraud had been filed against my name and instructed me to call back at 703-661-9037. As the call came to my mobile number, I knew it had to be a scam. I have seen postings about this exact language associated with scams. The IRS always contacts via mail.

This number is being used to tell people to call and say that they owe back taxes. This is tax fraud and DO NOT fall for it!! The IRS will ONLY contact you by U.S. Mail and will NOT call you on the phone. If you're still unsure, then call the IRS and ask them. They will tell you the same. PLEASE DISREGARD any phone calls where the person states they're from the IRS. They should really work for a living instead of swindling people out of their money!!!! UGH :-/
Don't fall for the phony tax threat saying, you have been reported by the IRS and it's a federal offense, blah blah blah. I blocked the call right away. It's so annoying how we're being solicited on mobile numbers. It's even more unfortunate that others will waste their time calling them back and falling victim to the scam. I hope they are smart enough to bing it first.
