The people claimed they were from the IRS. Some Tax evasion department. Seemed like a scam to me. When I called him out on being a con artist he hung up.
Left a message stating from "Tax Crime" division of IRS and to call this number. Seemed fishy to me, but I called.....no answer. When you don't leave a name or reference an account number, not good business. Plus who in the federal government doesn't have voicemail?
I looked up area code 703 and it is in the Washington, D.C area. Woman caller with foreign accent stated she was from the " tax crime investigation unit of Internal Revenue Service" and went on to say, " We were trying to reach you in regards to an important issue as we have received a copy of an affidavit concerning a tax evasion on your name.............. Don't disregard this message and do return the call-- as delay in calling us back might end up into a legal mess for you. Further, we will be forced to contact the sheriff's dept to ......... for further investigation" . I would hope no one who got this took it seriously-- I certainly did not. The message was less than convincing and contacting "the county sheriff's department" was laughable. I live in a county where I would love to see the sheriff or his deputies try to follow up on that!
My call said the same thing ( tax evasion ) foreign accent lady said if I disregard they will call the cops and sheriff will visit me. I am home most days and it will take a sheriff to get any action from me on this. Beware
Got the same call and message about a tax evasion affidavit and no to ignore or the sheriff will be called. I could hardly understand the woman. When I called back a man with equally bad diction answered and gave me the same line claiming he was from the IRS. I told him he had wrong information and after another "threat" from him I told him that I guess they will have to come and get me. What a huckleberry.
