As for the comment about Amazon... the same products Amazon sells you can get anywhere in the US so if you think they are surviving off of Chinas back you are wrong. They have excellent service and when I need a call I actually get a human being. They have stepped in and covered my back when a seller did not want to take a return. I love the 2nd day shipping etc. The whole China and outsourcing comment can be applied to most commerce in the US.
By the way, whenever I spoke with a customer service representative, he or she has been an American, just in a different state then where I am from. I use them a lot and I have maybe had a rep with an Indian accent once or twice. I am not hung up on the accent as long as I can understand and they can solve the problem.
Amazon seems to be the company calling. I placed an order and wanted to speak with the sales departments, so I entered my number. However, when they called I did not pick up as the caller ID said ESTARA INC.
Yes, this is the system used by Amazon (& others like Geek Squad) for their web-initiated callback system. Pretty cool. When I used it to contact Amazon for the first time, I entered my number, my phone rang immediately & I was connected to a real, live person right away. No waiting on hold, no endless phone menus.
long dead air on my voice mail...don't know if they're calling directkly to my cell or if it's rolling over from the home phone, as i have automatic call forwarding...
Within the last 5 minutes, I have recieved 6 calls.....make that 7 now...oops, now 8! I answered on the 7th call, got put thru to an Amazon representative who asked for my order number. I told him I have no order number, and in his really thick Indian accent asked why I called, and I said, well, uh, you called me, and have called me in quick succession in the last 5 minutes, letting it ring 3 times then hanging up, then calling back, hanging up and calling back. He said someone must have made a mistake somewhere and to put down the phone now please. So I did, and no sooner did I hang it up it called right back, and this time the automated system informed me that if I was recieving this call in error, to push the star key twice, which I did, and so far nothing more. Niether me or my husband have filled anything out at all with our phone number for a callback. That means that someone out there is entering our phone number for an Amazon order. Punks.
