Typical script for "bad check" collection scam/extortion racket.
Don't believe the threats. They have to provide proof of the debt in writing. If they don't, they're criminals, robbers. Make them obey the law before you give them anything.
Just for fun, I pressed "1" and was transferred to an actual person. They asked for the perennial target of payday loan scammers. The person who answered refused to take the number off the list after I informed them that employees are not allowed to take calls from collectors. They pressed for the name of someone in charge, the name and address of the company so they can submit written request for employment verification. This is fishing for information. If they were legit (as opposed to 3rd party holding outdated and incomplete information), they would have the information in hand already. I did not give them the info as it would be tantamount to revealing personal information about someone else, especially since I was the one who called them back. The fact that they were looking for the payday loan scam victim also prompted my refusal to provide information. I don't think they would use it to good ends. The initial call by this unnamed outfit was not for the purpose of obtaining information but rather intimidation and harassment.
Given that the last call from this number making the "immediate action" threat was 6 months ago, I am further convinced that this is a scam.
They never identified themselves or the company they represent. I should have pressed for those details. It might have been interesting.
I just started getting calls last week,it such a scam.. u can hear. Multiple people in the back scaming other people.. don't take the call or give any information .
