This number calls 3 - 4 times a week, doing fundraising for what they call a police charity. I only answered it once, and politely informed the caller that I do not donate to paid callers from out-of-state. I asked to be placed on their internal Do Not Call list, and was told that they don't have one. (Ha -- legitimate charities will comply with such a request; scammers don't care.)
I donate directly to my local charities of choice that rank well on Charity Navigator. Never donate to cold-callers who try to appeal for what sounds like worthy causes. So many are scams or keep 95% of what they raise for themselves, only donating a pittance to those for whom they claim they are supporting.
Charities are exempt from the Do Not Call list, and reporting it there doesn't do a thing. Just get a call blocker or don't answer.
Got a call today and answered since I happened to be home and expecting a call...was for some police family fund raiser out of VA. I told him police by me in NY/Long Island make 100-150K+ and their families are well taken care of. He was very regimented. I feel it was a scam or they give a very small percentage of donations to the true cause.
I have received calls from this # 3 times now... a man says, "Is Gloria there? Hello, are you there) I have no clue who it is, or what they want, since they don't leave a message... all three calls I have received were the same guys voice... I just want him to stop calling!!!!
