This is an illegal debt collection practice the company is using to report any collection activity as current even when they cannot contact or speak with the debtor. They report the account to the credit bureau with an active date of the hangup so that accounts are being reported in multiple and inaccurate data. You can report them to the FCC, the Attorney General's office, and file a civil suit against them for violations of the Fair Debt Collection Act, Consumer Privacy Protection Act, and Fair Credit Reporting Act.
