I received a letter from NCRS-Debt Collect, stating I owed $189.99 to Pay ASAP or an additional fee of $300.00 will apply along with court costs!! This must be paid by March 20th. (I received this letter on March 20th) The address was 349-L Copperfield Blvd NE Concord, NC 28025, telephone number 704-464-6550. I called that number and left a message. Julieann returned the call, she told me that I ordered several magazines and then canceled 21 days later (ordered Sept 6, 2002 and canceled Sept. 30,2002). She said that these magazine companies go back on accounts that have canceled just under 7 years ago and send the accounts to collections in hopes that they will get thousands in return. I asked how was I suppose to know who she was, she said she was sending the copy of the contract and I will know who she is. I should call her ASAP as I received this contract from her. She gave me her supposedly personal cell phone number.704-490-7584. (Which she screwed up when giving the number to me) The whole thing sounded weird to me. 1 week later I received the contract. No letterhead, does not indicate any company. I went to this website (have used before) and was not surprised to see the exact same story from Chuck. I also searched the address, has several proprietors, not NCRS-Debt Collect. I am reporting to my State's Consumer Protection.
We just got home from my 84 yr. old mother-in-law's house where I saw a collection letter from this NCRS-Debt Collect on her table. She told me they had kept contacting her so she paid it (UGH!!!). I brought the letter home to look them up on the internet, because being a highly sceptical, middle-aged secretary, I noticed the unprofessional, typegraphical & grammical incorrectness of this letter. I only wish she would have showed it to me before she sent the money.......these people should be ashamed of themselves - but obviously they have no morals or ethics at all. I will find out what I can do to get my mother-in-law's money back from these dispicable animals!!!
I received this same letter. I called, but just got an answering machine. It says I owe the same amount. the letter is signed by the collection manager/ Julianne ext 210. I could not put in the ext. It went straight to voice mail. I'm gald I looked this up. I will not be paying this bill.
Thank god for google! I got this letter yesterday, but it came to my Mothers house, which I thought was strange. Same phone number and amount owed, and same extension that I couldn't enter. I decided to google the number, and your stories popped up. Thank god for google, and for not owing anyone money! Thank you for helping spread the word about this scam.
