Michael, check into it. You may owe the money but more than likely it's not thru them. Run your credit report, ask them for the documentation that the debt was transferred to them. If they are a legit company they will have that info. If they ask you to verify/provide your info just say that it's whatever they have on file. DO NOT tell them any of your info. Had that happen to me last year, wanted $2000 or in 48 hrs I would be arrested. Freaked me out. I called the cops the better business bureau. Even had the police station find out if an arrest warrant had been issued. Come to find out years ago I had gotten a payday loan and their systems were hacked and it leaked out everyone's info. I had to block my credit report and I still get calls.
They called my aunt looking for me. We don't even have the same last name anymore. Gave her a case number and said his name was David Peterson. I looked up the number and it's based out of North Carolina.
I got a call as well, but unfortunately, it was from a past due account that I had owed. Some legal company picked it up and now they are trying to have me arrested. Im not made for jail.
