They continue to call leaving a message saying they are collection on a debt with Windstream but when I go online to pay Windstream (which was cancelled by me due to moving locations) it states I have a $0.00 balance!!! What gives here?
ALSO REPLYING TO SHEILA: As for who these people really are, we may never know. As for who they are re scams, it sounds like they've got hold of a list of (old?) Windstream customers and they're trying to trick them into thinking they have some unfinished business with that company. I CAN'T SAY THIS ENOUGH if you get a call like that CALL THE REAL COMPANY & if they actually have such a thing on record you can square it with them while you're on the phone. NEVER use any number you get from THESE people; they'll just give you one of their other scam numbers. You did the right thing, Karen. It pays to check with the REAL company and to be double sure it IS the real company!
Just reporting one more call from these cons. Somehow I feel better being able to do that. Somewhere in me I hope one day they'll catch these people (again? Because it registered Athens GA on the CID & that's where they caught a ring of scam artists a few years ago. It's about time they got out...I believe this is the same people) and somehow they'll be able to pin these calls on them as a count each if someone knows they're out there.
I didn't answer. That's really the best way, but I understand that sometimes people get caught up in something like that when they have to answer because it's a business phone. Also once I picked up the phone to make a call and one in a million I picked up the phone in that nanosecond between the time the caller finished putting in the number but before it rang. It wasn't one of these people but it was someone I didn't want to talk to at the time.
Just don't give them ANY information. Period. And it's more than OK for you to hang up on them. They're not doing anything legal or even RIGHT and they sure don't care about your feelings so why should you care a whit about them? Just put the receiver down or press End and let it go. You and them both deserve for you to do that.
