I also recieved a call from this phone number. He said he was from PC Trackers and that there was unusual activity from my IP address. He wanted me to log on to my computer so he could "walk me though some steps" inorder for him to investigate. He claimed he was subcontracted with Microsoft. I told him I would call him back and asked for a phone number.
My research on it: PC Trackers do have a web site but they do not show a phone number, mailing address, or email address. My guess is the website is part of the scam. When I called the number he gave me I got an automated message for a company that was not PC Trackers. I *69ed the number he called from. It was the 707-658-7904. I tried calling that number within a half hour of recieving a call from it. The number said it was no longer in service.
This number does not accept incoming calls, it is more than likely a telemarketer. I have been getting a lot of these type of sales calls lately on my mobile phone. I wonder if the mobile phone companies are starting to sell phone lists.
They called on my land-line - Caller ID: Not Available
Picked up the phone (the number is new to me - is not on my Block-List) - nobody answering - waited and hung up.
I answered today & actually spoke w/ someone. She verified my phone # & advised me that there was an issue w/ my computer. She stated that my computer is downloading unwanted files & possibly viruses & Microsoft office has alerted them to call me. I asked how they knew I had windows & she said by my IP address. She wanted me to log on to my computer now to help fix the issues. I advised her that I would get my computer checked by a professional.
I was just thrown off by the nature of the call, that I didn't ask for the company name. She had a strong accent so she was hard to understand.
A person named Sherry (sic) from PC Trackers, had a very strong accent and had to repeat herself twice to be understood. Asked for Mr or Mrs and a really mangled pronunciation of my last name. After she repeated for the second time that she was calling from PC Trackers, I told her I didn't own a PC, she thanked me and hung up. Here is the link to their website: http://pctrackers.com/ I imagine if I had a PC, I would have received the same spiel as mom222, above.
Same here. They knew my name. I knew it was a scam right away but figured I would listen for a while and told them person they needed was out. Said there were over a dozen computers (there are) and which IP address was it. They said 168.192.1.4 which is an IP address in Sprint Networks, a provider I have never used.
This is obviously a "social engineering" type of phone call. Caller sounded mail and accent was so thick they had to repeat Tracker several times for me to understand. These people seem pretty likely to be criminals.
