Caller ID said *Purple Heart*, but when answering machine picked up after 4 rings, just dialtone. Either way, scam or legit charity, I would never donate by phone.
Purple Heart is a legitimate Veterans organization who will pick up clothing donations from your home, HOWEVER, in trying to match up their Crestwood, IL location to the 708-396-8995 phone number, Google indicates that the Crestwood location is closed. While it's possible the organization has moved to another location within the 708 area code, I would not personally deal with a company cold calling me until this could be verified.
People are hired by these organization to call from home. I was a caller for Amvets about 45 yrs ago when I was home with kids. (Think I got paid 15 cents per pickup!!)
Just as I don't know or trust these people calling my phone and cannot verify their details, I am as unlikely to take your word for it, sorry. You, trail rider, could be the person from this alleged Purple Heart organization that continues to call me 4-5 times per week even though the number was blocked back in October. If this is an actual person, which I doubt, they aren't very bright. Regardless of where they are calling from I won't do business with them unless I can verify their details, as I previously stated.
