I got one tonight..listened to the recorded msg. several times. Notice they don't say WHO they were trying to reach..no personal name. Say something about having won a car..but later say one of four major prizes. He also said he had tried repeatedly to reach us, but that is not true in that our caller ID would have picked it up..and he certainly had not left any messages previously either. Any contests I might have signed up for would be online..with my email info...and from major companies. I don't trust any of this and do not intend to return the call.
In a quiet voice, all I said was, "Hello." Caller was a man in his 20s? He very quickly said, "Oh, I have the wrong number; have a nice evening," I could tell he was lying, Why did he call my number?

ID comes up as Mitchells Comm. Call first time at 8 am from 708-248-6583. Started leaving a message about winning something and they've tried calling several times. Picked up during message and they immediately hung up. Same ID came up under 708-833-8406 and answered right away and they said they dialed wrong number without even asking for a person. Screams SCAM somehow.
Don't fall for it. I got a call years ago. I talked to the guy and he said "Congratulations! You just won a car! So I played along and it came down to "All I need is a valid credit card number..." and I said "Wait, let me call the police with your number that's on my caller ID first to make sure you are legit." He hung up. I did call the cops with the number.
I'm getting calls from this 708 number again now, but I'm older and don't have time to play along anymore. I just don't pick up.
I suggest you tell your senior citizen relatives or friends, who are the most vulnerable.
