Recieved numerous calls from this number during 2013. 712-560-0485 was an unknown number to me. Picked up to tell the caller to stop calling my number.
This scammer is using an automated dialing program and plays a recorded threat message claiming the victim is passing bad checks and owes money to the scammer. The recorded message claims they will sue the victim unles the victim gives the scammer money. There is no way for the victim to answer back and tell the scammer to stop calling the victim's telephone number because the scammer is using a recorded message.
Immediately I did a ring-back on the telephone number 712-560-0485 to find out who the scammer is and to see if there might actually be a human at the other end of the line. The scammer has set up their phone system to automatically put the victim on hold forever. The automated message gives phony options for the victim. No matter which options are pressed, the victim is put on hold forever. The scammer is apparently not interested in speaking with the victim. I am not surprised. All recipients of this phone scam have one thing on their mind when doing a ring-back - telling the scammer to stop calling their phone number and to identify the scammer for follow-up legal action by the Iowa attorney generals office.
To summarize, the VoIP number 712-560-0485 is a scam. This is a Nigerian death threat/legal threat phishing scam intended to scare the most fearful victims into submitting money, bank account information and/or credit card account information - to avoid legal battles that the poorest might not be able to afford. DON'T give out information! Don't call back the annonymous telephone number that the scammer instructs the victim to call during the recorded message. The scammer doesn't want to talk with the recipient of the call unless the victim is ready to give money and bank/credit account information. HANG UP AND BLOCK THIS CALLER'S TELEPHONE NUMBER!!! Talk with your telephone company to learn how to use the star/functions on your telephone to automatically log threatening or fraudulent calls for future investigation and prosecution by the police.
I keep getting an automated recording from this number looking for someone named Lisa. I called the number back but I just get an answering service asking me for the person's extension. I have no idea who is calling me.
I received a call from 712 560 0485, left me a vm with an automated message saying something about fraud, and instructed me to call 877-252-0532. When I looked up the 877 number on google, the result was it is more than likely a scam.

It appears that Level 3 Communications is the owner of this scamline prefix number. After checking around, I discovered that many other people are scam phone calls through the 712-560-XXXX switchboard. This switchboard appears to be a huge source of scam calls. This switchboard also blocks the ability to look up the identity of the caller. They have posted a phony reverse lookup that demands credit card information to look up the callers name and address. These are scammers.
The best way to deal with Level 3 communications is to block ALL calls from the 712-560-XXXX location. If anyone you know has a number through these clowns, tell them to get a different number. It's time to put Level 3 communications out of business.
