Called and asked for "Will", which is the owner's (now dead) son. I asked, "Will? Or Bill?" He said the full name (which is both of theirs). "He's not here at the moment. Would you like to leave a message?"
"Well, do you expect him in at all today?"
Okay, listen. Flag on the play. We don't have customers (or even vendors, for that matter) who are 800 miles away from here. If this was a legitimate call, they'd START WITH, "Hi. This is Chuck from [Vendor Name]...", and if the owner's not available, THEY'D LEAVE A MESSAGE. "I have new price pages for him," or whatever.
The fact that @$$hole telemarketers don't START WITH THEIR NAME & BUSINESS is a great Big Red Flag, telling me that they have no legitimate reason to talk to the owner. Go die.
