We moved into a nice apartment last month, only to find these flyers all over the street and lawn. Why do people trash our neighborhood? We called the department of insurance in Sacramento to complain and the lady who answered the phone told us some interesting facts.
She said that licensed insurance agents are not allowed to do this type of illegal advertising. She said that some of these companies might be fly by night and target immigrants who don’t know better. The insurance might not be valid and buyers could get in trouble if they get a ticket and it would not pay if the got into an accident. She said that you should be careful if you buy from them. She said you could call the department to make sure they have a license, and then call the actual company – aig, state farm … to make sure you really have insurance.
She said that if the deal seems too good to be true it probably is.
