My daughter asked them why they do these scam calls. He bragged most people in his country get paid $50 per month while he averages $1,000 per day on stupid Americans who fall for his scams (multiple scams with multiple fake numbers that show up on your caller ID). I still can't believe how many people don't understand that Do Not Call Registry only works for legitimate businesses that follow the law. These scammers are criminals. News alert- they don't follow the laws. They can make any phone number show up on your caller ID, even your local police department number. (The more they know about you, the better they can scam you). If they are using one of their real phone numbers, it is often through a service like Magic Jack, but they are in a foreign country, away from USA legal jurisdiction.
My policy: if they are not on my contacts list, they can leave a message and I will decide whether to call them back. I will never do anything involving money over the phone (including charities) or give anyone personal information, including address or name or credit card information or anything that can help them with their scams. If they quit making money, they will quit calling.
