If you hide your true identity from CID info you are a scammer and you are blocked. I have all of area code 714 blocked but this one rang three times before my blocker disconnected the fools. It is the first time this number shows up in log. U-all have a grand day now.
Sherriem, I can sympathize with you. In 2004, I had a terminally ill parent. Every time the phone rang, I thought it was The Call. Instead, often as not, it was some jackmule trying to refinance my mortgage. (The pattern of calls has changed over the years. Now it's solar and home remodeling -- and "Rachel from Card Services.") I had been on the DNC list since it started in 2003 and decided to do something about the calls. The very first outfit I sued, rolled over and settled for $2000. And I was on my way. (I also reported them to the Feds, even provided some evidence that proved the violations, even though the call center was in India. A while later the Feds got them for several million dollars in forfeitures for DNC violations. Then they went bankrupt. I like to think I helped).
I've lost count of how many demand letters I've sent, how many cases I've brought, and how much I've collected in the intervening years, but I would estimate 75 cases and over $100K. I don't lose many, I don't fail to collect.
The law gives us the power to go after these dirtballs ourselves. The government can't do everything for us. What we need is information -- who they are, where they are, who their agent for service is... Too often, 800notes.com is just a forum where people vent but don't do anything -- (this is not meant for you, but you probably know who I mean here) -- "Banned! Banned FOREVER!!!" That's nice, pilgrim, but what am I supposed to do with that wonderful news?
I would urge everyone here, don't get angry, don't slam the phone down in disgust -- get even, get money. It's a game, and the rules are all stacked in our favor. Identify, bill, settle or sue. Some of these pests are well hidden, and all think they are beyond reach, but that's arrogance and false security. ALL of them can be reached and brought to justice, perhaps not by us as individuals but certainly by the Feds, if they have enough incentive.
I wish this forum provided a more discreet, confidential means for victims to communicate privately with each other, so we could exchange info on these pests without tipping them off by posting in public. With enough information, we can take action. As it is, there isn't much actionable information to be found here on 800notes. Usually the most I can do is print out some of the reports to submit as evidence in court, to show a pattern of abuse coming from that particular number.
I don't know who this pest is, only that I was working into the wee hours this morning, hoped to sleep in, and this pest woke me up. If it's another "card services" scam there isn't much we can do about it individually. But many others, we can put the financial hurt on 'em. Because in the end, that -- and jail, for the real criminals, the fraudsters, the IRS impersonators who just got busted for example -- is the only incentive that will make them stop.
