I have been trying to sell an item on craigslist for a couple months. And so far the only offers I have received have been from scammers. Offering me the amount asked for plus additional to remove the item off of craigslist. They will send a check for more than the asking price and want you to cash it. Once cashed, they want you to send the remaining money to a "seamstress" or "mover" or something like that. SCAM!! 5 times in one month they tried this crap! I'm sick of it, and the police don't do anything. I turned in the fraud check and nothing gets done which is why these idiots keep getting away with it.
Got a text from this number offering to buy an item off Craigslist. The broken English was a red flag, then they agreed to pay more if I would remove the item from its post. I then received a fairly legit cashier's check in the mail for six times the amount I had asked for the item followed by a text asking if I had deposited it yet. I assume that had I tried to cash the check, they would have received info about my account and I would also have been charged by my bank for the fraudulent amount. I told the texter I'd destroyed the check but if he wanted to send another for the correct amount to States Attny Office, Internet Fraudulent Claims Division, that would be fine. I never heard another word.
