Received a call with EXACT same content. Fortunately, I did not act on it immediately, instead used Google to search whether it was a scam call. Thanks to your post (dated: 09/21/2016), I was sure that it is a scam call. I dialed back the same number, and gave them an earful - had more to say, but they disconnected the call.

- Because you have great tax record, credit record, etc., Grants department is giving you 9700 USD (not needed to be returned over entire lifetime).
- But, because Western Union is a private enterprise, you will have to pay them a registration fees (given that their daily limit of cash transfers is 3000 USD).
- CATCH....You need to register via i-tune card worth 250 USD. I-tune, because Apple is one of the sponsors of this scheme.
That's where I cut them off with my "investigation" efforts.
These people called me pretending to be us grant Dept and told me that I have been selected for a government grants of 9700 they then said they needed a iTunes card with 250 dollars so they can send me the money by Western Union i was a bit hesitant but they assured me that everything is going fine and that they would not scam me and that is my money and that the government would reimburse me for the 250 I told them they are taking the food from my son mouth if this is a scam they said I know I also have kids. You have all our information so don't worry about it. They said they would walk me step by step to get the money I like an idiot believe that then they said that the IRS put ahold on my account so I can not get the money unless I pay400 dollars more so right away I knew they got me. I should have trusted my gut I got got. Don't let this happen to you the funny thing is that they knew my name phone number and address. So I like an idiot thought it was legit and fell for the scam mainly because I have been applying for grants and I thought that this was real. Silly me. I reverse engineered the phone number and it's in lark ave in Dunkirk NY between egale st and central Ave on 6th st.the number they called me from was 716-203-1925. They claimed there Oddi was in 666 5th ave in Manhattan NY but when I said that I wanted to go to there office they said that they don't allow visits. I got scam and I am going to get them for that.
