Its from some UPS group - Unified Portfolio Services - saying they are a debt collector. hmmm, funny for a debt that's not even mine! So likely some scammer or bottom feeder..
Would not give me any information on alleged debt. Said I knew what is was about and to just pay or else I would be arrested and work, and they wou;ld notify my HR department of the impending arrest. Very thick Indian accent. Definitely a scammer
This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
I received a call from these people too. My girl had a New York accent and said she would search to see what businesses I owned and that she was calling about a debt related to my social security number blah blah blah and that she was going to file a case in U.S. federal and state court. I blocked her number and the following day a different woman called from the same prefix (716) 242- saying the same thing and that I had only 24 hrs to return her call. These people are scam artists whether they are legitamelty trying to collect in a debt or not. They are using illegal fear tactics to try and scare you into answering their call.
