I initially started to get calls to my cell phone from Frontier Financial asking for me using my married name (I'm now divorced). I never answered & didn't return the phone calls. I then was told by Frontier that my "account" would be turned over to an attorney. A couple of weeks later I started getting calls from East Point Group, Jason Riley, Claims Processor @ this number 716-247-4675. I have no intentions on answering any number I am not familiar with or returning voice mail calls. I checked all 3 of my credit reports and everything is fine...no unpaid collections or write offs or past due bills. Not certain if they are trying to use me to get ex's bills paid or are they just out to scam someone out of tax refund money...If so, no luck here - I just sent the IRS $754 because I usually owe every year! My Advice --- Don't Answer,,,Don't Return Their Calls,,,Check for legitimate mail...Check all 3 of your credit reports.
I kept getting calls from another NY number, and googled that one as well. It came up with a collection firm with a reputation for shady tactics, such as harassing relatives, saying they are lawyers and setting up payments plans and then pulling money out of peoples accounts. They called my sister and harassed her, stating that I had put her down as a reference, which I have never done. They had many complaints. After a while, they stopped, and I started receiving calls from this number, stating they are the East Point Group and they had a claim on me. Having never gotten previous calls from NY, I can only assume it is the same people, with the same shady tactics. I figure if it is serious, they will mail me, the other companies have done so and been resolved. Everyone please be careful answering calls from these kind of companies, and giving or confirming info with them.
I received a call from this group, stating they had been trying to get in touch with my daughter. I didn't think how they got my number. However, being the mother, when they said your daughter has been named in a law suit, I immediately asked them what kind. The man stated he was with East Point Group, and that they were a company right in between Best Buy and the creditor (I guess my daughter). After he told me Best Buy. I asked him what her total debt was, (never thinking why he would give this information to me, as I was not on this account). He told me 2900.00. I then asked what would be the minimum they would take. and he said 2100.00. I took his information and told him she doesn't have $100.00 to offer, but I would give her his number. After looking on the internet, I wish I had not taken the time to talk to him, he caught me off guard. I will not answer again. However, by him giving me this information, doesn't seem legal. That is her business?
I received a phone call today on my cell, this Jason Riley was looking for my sister and brother-in-law. He said it was a legal issue and both of their cell phones, the voicemail was full and he couldnt leave a message for them. He said he was from the East Point Group, gave me a case#. So is this a scam or what? I gave the message to my brother-in-law and warned him.
