Who called from 7165687925

I have been getting calls from this number (716-568-7925) basically on a DAILY basis.  They have left me pre-recorded messages from about 3 or 4 different business, yet they all have the same voice!  These people have threatened me numerous times (never ONCE stated that they are a debt collector with the attempt to collect a debt - isn't that required by law that they must state that??)  They say that the charges have been filed and passed on to the courts and that I will have a sheriff at my door or place of work to give me a subpoena.  The times have come and gone that I have gotten all these threats and nothing has happened.  This has been going on for almost a year now.  They have called me as L. Ryan Copeland, Brown Meyers & Associates, and now RPG.  Are these people legit, or are they trying to scam me, and scare me half to death???  Someone... PLEASE ADVISE!!

I'll repeat and modify my response there from two weeks ago.

You are indeed the victim of cheap debt collector fright tactics. Those threats you're hearing are both false and illegal, indicating there is no proof of claim. Lack of disclosure of a business name and lack of a "mini Miranda" telling you of the caller's purpose can also be violative. Carefully document all calls and make ready to file suit. If you're not ready to run pro se, a decent consumer lawyer should take such cases on contingency.

Be certain before you act that this agency of many names actually claims you, and not some stranger being skip traced, are liable for some debt. If so, you were owed a required dunning letter long ago. If you do have a good case, don't sit too long. You get one year from a given violation to include it in a suit for the statutory payback. (Though it does sound like you would still have a sufficient pattern of abuse clocking from -- let's say early this year.)

You'll need to dispute the debt and set contact restrictions in a letter sent USPS Certified with return card. By now you would be long past the point where these thugs need to validate, but you can at least silence your phone with the "all calls inconvenient" line. If your demand is ignored, drop another log in your lawsuit fire.
