You have many rights as a consumer and there are countless law firms ready and willing to go after these companies for collection law violations. They can't call you more than 3 times a day or before 8 a.m and after 9 p.m. They can't claim they'll sue if they don't intend to do so. They can't claim to be law enforcement or anything other than a collection agency. They must inform you of your right to dispute the debt and they must provide written proof of the debt upon request. I wouldn't wait for them to call again. I'd call them and tell them it's a bogus debt, you want written validation of the debt, you don't appreciate illegal collection tactics like stating that they'll "charge you," and you'll be happy to sue them if they want to play this game.
