Had the same thing happen today. Sometimes, the caller ID was the 717 number, then other times it was a 9-number followed by the phone number. Called at least 10 times. Stopped after about 1p. Not sure what the purpose is of this - downright nuisance, and it's not even an attempt to sell anything. If anything, it seems like a drunk doing a prank. Native English speakers are hard enough to understand when they're drunk. So this guy was over the top.
**** SEE HELP BELOW TO BLOCK THESE CALLS ****
We have received 10 + calls starting 7/18/2010 from this same number... (calls come in at either 5:30am or 6:15am - where you have a heart attack because you are sleeping & think it's an emergency... and also 1 time at 1:00pm in the afternoon when he actually left a message of INDIAN MUMBLE JUMBLE - couldn't understand anything.... CRAZY!!!
Only 2 or 3 of the calls came in at "this (717) phone number" & the rest are coming in from different numbers (but they are all from the same person). The other numbers on the caller id are not even phone numbers (ie. 923923036787046 & 2 other non-numbers that are very similar). Our phone company informed us that people can pick anything they want for the call id when the get iphone apps etc :o( ***said we could try blocking the non-numbers too (or) try anonymous reject with below info...
***** FYI - HELP FOR THESE CALLS... *******
blocked this (717) number thru phone company by dialing (*60 then the number with the area code/ can only do 12 numbers - fyi!!!!)
Not sure if i will be able to do anything about the other non-numbers, so they suggested i try putting an "anonymous call rejection" on my phone to try to keep the non-numbers away...(your phone provider can give you the codes to add & remove anonymous call block & if someone you know cannot call you because they have a private name/private number- unlisted number, there's a special way for them to get thru to you if you call your phone provider for direction)
- hope this helps others :o) & hopefully these callers are not reading my help info
