I also got call from this number asking for penalty money for settlement of 3 charges against me.
Claims from Crime investigation dept, in Illinois.
Gave phone number to local police office.
Got a vmail from this # with heavy NY type accent. Asked us to call back to verify identity, and threatened legal action if we didn't call back. I called back in the evening (with our number blocked), and we got "voice mail is full, and can't accept your message"..That sounded fishy, because no police department will have such voice mail. I called the next morning (again with our number blocked), and the same person who left the vmail was on the line. We hang up...BEWARE..Do NOT share your SS# or other ID with such people. They could be identity thieves...
This third time I have received call from this number. No investigator make such a threatening call. Almost 2 minutes message in my answering machine. It has accent and must be hybrid of Latino or Indian or African, Nigerian.
Is there any number we can report ? I know what it is , if the call goes to a old citizens , he or she will be ripped off buy thugs.
I called the number and it says Investigator's office? Poses as an government officer.
