HI. I was threatened by the same person that I would be arrested. My boyfriend answered the phone and he told them off. I have taken store payday loans out, but never online. My boyfriend has told him no that we already in debt with student loans. Then the guy said, I'd be arrested. First of all, why would I be arrested for no crimes.
Has been leaving voicemails at my work number, reciting my name, address and even full social security number. Has threatened me of lawsuit and arrest at my place of work for non-payment of a debt. This has been going on for 5-6 years from a payday loan I took out years ago, and has been satisfied and is history.
Just got a call at work and I recognized the number. As soon as this middle-eastern accent came over the telephone wire, I knew what the caller's intent was. I cut him off and told him to stop calling my workplace and he called me a "stupid [***]". I hung up. He called again, I lifted receiver and hung up. He called back a third time, I answered (now remember I'm at work), told him to cease & desist, as I do not owe a damn thing, told him you have my address to mail supporting documentation. He cuts me off, tells me I will be arrested tomorrow @ 11am at my workplace. I said "fine, I look forward to it, at least then I'll find out who you are, who's fraudulently attempting to extort money from me". His reply..."f*@k you [***]" and hung up.
Sounds totally legitimate to me!
I am confident this stems from a payday loan application I completed online years ago. Have had these harassing calls since that time.
It is upsetting to be harassed like this, and verbally abused by someone you don't even know, for something you are not even guilty of. Besides, it is not against the law to be in debt, or owe money - if that were the case.
They have called me twice in the past 10 minutes. His name is Stephen Jones from American Law Enforcement Department saying that there is a law suit against me, etc etc. They have not called my office YET, nor my home. I will report them to the Attorney General's office of PA since that is the location for the area code used. Law enforcement DOES NOT give you advanced warning if they plan to arrest anyone. My supervisor worked for an attorney for 20 years and she would definitely know.
I have received several calls from 717-8895412. I hung up each time because I have heard of a scam using payday loans. I have used these types of loans in the past. They are all paid back. The callers name was Gary Thompson. That was funny in itself. He had a middle eastern accent. He said that unless I paid $597.00, I would be arrested tomorrow. When I told him that I didn't have that type of cash on hand, he said that I could pay 149.35 by 9/5. I told him I wouldn't have that. He then said that I had to pay $100.00 by 9/5 or I would be arrested. I guess that since they know my s.s# number, they must know my address. I am going to be arrested. LOL
