This is national grid. It is the same number that called me in the past when my bill was overdue. That wasn't a scam; my bill really was overdue. But I still didn't pay it by phone, I simply paid it electronically the way I pay all my bills, once I had the money to do so.
Currently, they are calling to schedule replacing my meter free of charge. This is because Mass state law requires the replacement every 7 years, even if the meter is fully functional. I converted from oil to gas seven years ago. Scam? No, not in my case.
But I'm glad so many others are suspicious in general. That is a healthy skepticism. For me, it checks out in this case.
This number has called me a few times, I finally blocked it on my cell but the caller can still leave messages. It's a distorted recorded message in a female voice giving a call back number & asking to call between business hours monday-friday.
The National Grid account at my home is not in my name so I can't imagine why they would need to contact me. It's getting old though.
this is all a total scam, do not give any personal inforfation, and tell them, you will have the police check on them and see how fast they will change there tones. and they will do a reverse look up.
About a month ago they called, left a msg, I called them back made this "appointment to change my gas meter", they said they would CALL on the day of appt to confirm. the appt was set within a 6 hour time frame. My son was home that day, but never heard the guy at the front door, (which is right next to his room and the living room) and they NEVER called to confirm like they said they would. They called three days later and I told them what happened, and we repeated the same exact EXERCISE IN FUTILITY the following week. They started calling again this week.
They are calling your home/cell number while someone shows up at the door without any appointment, to change meter. How rude! They could call ahead of time to make an appointment. Yes it's also for collections, too
