They called about an hour ago. The caller ID said "G.W. Financial" with a phone number of #718-509-3005, neither of which I recognized, so I let it go to voicemail. It was a long computer-generated voice stating:
The message made mentioned of an IRS fraud being put against me.
"This is Steve Parker, from the Internal Revenue Services. This call is officially a Final Notice from the IRS. The nature and the purpose of this call is to inform you that we have received legal petition notice concerning a tax fraud against you.
So, before this matter goes to the Federal Claims (or Queens) Court House, or before you get arrested please call, immediately, our department, at 718-509-3005.
Make sure you call us as soon as possible."
G.W. seems to be a real firm, based in Texas. The area code for this call was from New York City, though.
The most important thing to remember is - the IRS does not phone you. They send a letter. Always.
I just received this same message. Was a bit nervous for no reason because never have I ever frauded anyone. Thanks for your reassurance Jerzygirl45. What some ppl wouldn't do to scam honest hardworking ppl. Smh! Stay smart ppl! Thanks again!
Received same message from GW Financial as described above ie IRS fraud investigation, call before you get arrested, etc, etc ... Pure scam. I chose not to engage. The IRS will have to send someone in person to arrest me. I don't think that will ever happen. End of story.
