Call came from caller ID as 999-299-7646 on my cell phone. Said I had won a prize from American Airlines -- vacations, money etc. He had my number but not my name. I asked how I could call him back -- he gave me 718-673-6170 - Verrry bad accent. Said the company name was CBC and his name was James Robertson (very likely with that accent). Said he was in New York.
A call came into my work # (not sure when, since I was off for a couple of days). Message was left on the work voicemail from a male named Jack (couldn't understand the last name) stating I needed to contact his office, a law firm right away. I called the number (718-673-6170) only to get yet another person who did not speak English well, but from what I could understand he said I had taken out a loan and refused to repay. I had never heard of the company before. He stated there was a warrant for my arrest on 3 counts of a felony and I would be arrested at 11 a.m. tomorrow morning. I tried to explain I didn't know what he was talking about and when he asked the last 4 digits of my SS# I asked him what and he refused to repeat it. He then said if I had an attorney I needed to contact my attorney and he said something to the effect of "God be with you in your case" and hung up. I was able to reach my attorney, who placed a conference call to the number and after several words were exchanged, the person my attorney was speaking with hung up on the conference call. Approximately 5:55 p.m. (same day, today) Jack called back. When I tried to explain I didn't know what he was talking about, he insisted that I speak with their senior attorney, at which time I disconnected the call. Jack or someone immediately called back but received the night-call service. I spoke with a co-worker and she said she was having the same problem for a while. Needless to say this upset me very much.
i received several calls from this number and with threat of arrest and lawsuit on my voice mail. received same type of calls in February and was told by attorney to write letter stating that they where to notify by mail what this was about and that they must give information for who and what there are calling about, also must give there correct names and address/ send mail by return signature and more than likey you will receive it back unopened
I've been getting these calls for over a month now. I finally picked up to hear that I was being picked up tomorrow morning on 3 counts of felony charges due to an unpaid payday loan that I had no idea of. Insisting that I speak to the senior attorney, i threw a fit and she said she'd call me back. Her name was Samantha. I decided to get online and googlet the number to find all this. All really bad indian accents. Alot of noise in the background. I'm about to call back and give them a peice of my mind.
I got back from lunch today and had a voicemail on my work phone and on my cell phone from someone with a super heavy accent named James Brown (right) requesting that I or my attorney call back immediately or legal action will proceed against me and there is nothing he can do to protect me if I don't call back right away. Turns out, I AM an attorney, so that takes care of that. I googled the number he told me to call (the number came up as unknown on the cell caller ID) because the call sounded super fishy and almost like the guy was reading from a script. And I found this page and all the pages from the other scam numbers associated with this. I've put a fraud alert on my credit report and filed a complaint with the FTC and FBI. I'm just waiting for the idiots to call me back. I've called them and keep getting the general voicemail recording. Does anyone know if these people have taken the next step with just the information they seem to have right now (SSN, bank account #) and committed any sort of identity theft?
I received a call from a restricted # and the 718 number was their callback number. The guy stated that his name was David Grisham but his attempt at an accent was horrible, he had a very heavy Indian accent. He stated that I was being sued buy CashNet for unpaid payday loans. This guy must have forgotten that he called me earlier in the week with the same story and gave me a Florida number as a callback. Needless to say I called Cashnet and spoke to someone in their fraud department to report the calls, Cashnet said that those people are not affiliated with them and that they are a fraud. And I also don't have any loans with them.
