A call originating from this number came in at 9:16a today, march 13, 2012.The caller ID read FDNY Recruitment, I hit redial and got a recorded message saying "due to network difficulties my call could not be completed at this time."
I happen to know that the FDNY finished recruiting several months ago and wonder who would be able to get a phone number using that false or misleading caller name.
Hey, thanks for the info on your caller ID, this makes sense that it is the FDNY Recruiting center calling. This number was calling me for the past few days I didn’t answer and when I Googled it, crazy things were coming up like Indian debt scammers and such. The number is a Staten Island phone number, and you are absolutely right the FDNY recruitments process did end a few months age. The testing did not begin and/or though; I am registered to take the exam. I also remember reading on FDNY’s Facebook Recruiting page that they will be calling everyone who registered to take the exam for some sort of testing tutorial. They also said that it’s a possibility that some scammers have been calling and do not give your social security number to anyone over the phone because the legit recruiters will not ask for it. Next time they call I will answer it, if they start asking for personal info I won’t give it and hang up, if they just want to set up a date or something it is actually a legit FDNY phone call. I've been getting calls from this number since the weekend(March 9) about 3 times a day. I also am scheduled to take the FDNY test on April 8th. When the call comes in, I answer and it hangs up on the other end as soon as I pick up. I call back and the phone picks up and after I say hello, the call drops again. Weird.
