someone says they are an animal rescue outfit and they solicit a $5.00 donation. If you donate you are eleigble to win a lot of money. A follow up call said there were some missing funds and asked for a bank account number. This call was to an older lady that has to have someone sit with her for most of the day. She is an easy target.
My mother received a call from a woman, and then George Stevens and finally, Joseph Reed. They told her she won $9.8 million dollars from a sweepstakes in Spain. My mother is elderly and can be confused, but she has been good about not giving out her personal information for the most part. Joseph Reed asked her who she donated money to and when Mom said the Veteran's and Children, then he told her she had won the sweepstakes through the Veteran's. He has talked several times over 2 or 3 days to my mother and my sister who lives with Mom and makes it sound very legitimate....don't give out personal info, have a financial advisor on hand, we don't take any part of the winnings, will be flying out there in a week or so and will do the electronic transfer, works for Rothschild in NY and blah, blah, blah. The number he used is different...646-593-8085, ext. 527.
I was informed that I had won 9.8 million in a sweepstakes. I have been called several times and the last time by a Michael Collins, so called lawyer. Today I was to have a conference call and asked to have my financial adviser on the line--NO CALL. SO THE ANSWER IS THE SAME AS ALL THE ABOVE. SCAM, SCAM. HOW CAN THESE SCAMMERS BE CAUGHT?
My mother recieved same type of call from a Robert Spencer claiming to be with Rothchild Investments out of New York. There is no Rothchild office anywhere in New York. He said that she won 9.8 million in a sweepstakes from Spain. That they would send a round trip ticket for her and companion to fly to Spain to claim it. He mentioned her name and date of birth and asked her to confirm it, well she did unfortunately. She has received 2 calls so far, each time giving her a name of someone who will call her next. Something has to be done about this.
My elderly mother (89) received a call from these people stating that she had won a lottery through the Veterans. The first caller was a Joseph Reed but during the second call, Arthur Wriley stated that Reed no longer worked for the company. The next guy that called used the name of Arthur Wriley. I called the number they gave her (646.593.8085) and he did in fact answer the phone. Several months prior, she received a letter stating she had won a lottery in Spain, but would have to fly to Madrid to collect the money. Now she is receiving calls stating that she has won over $9.8 million. The names of the lawyers that are to call her for personal information in order to draw up the legal documents are Michael or Mike Collins or Christopher Burton. I have told my mother not to give them any personal information and in fact to have them call me as her finanical representative. They are to call tomorrow at 10a. We will see if they do. After reading all these posts, my suspicions are confirmed that this is a hoax. Please be aware and be careful.
