This was a Phishing call from a Mr Paxton, purporting to be the CEO of Publishers Clearing House.
He called to inform me that he had a certified check in my name, drawn on the Bank of America, for $1.5M.
When I asked why I was so blessed, he said my name was drawn from their national lottery, and I had won second prize, that he was anxious to deliver and when would I like to receive it. I told him that I had had no business with them and entered no such lottery. He replied I must have done business with CVS,Walgreens, Sears or a common retailer and my name had been entered automaticaly.
He asked if I would prefer private or public delivery and he would need my Drivers Licence and national ID number. I told him no such information would be given over the phone. He replied that was O/K but this must be available, when the check was delivered. I told him I would check this out and get back to him. He said that he welcomed that and I could call back. Of course I did not do so.
My mother-in-law (in her 80's) was scammed by people using this number. She lost $499 already by falling for their Walgreens green-dot scam. (google it up...it is amazing how they get people to send them the codes and such from a prepaid Visa or Mastercard and then drain the money from the card with this info.) They STILL keep calling. They think they have a sucker now since they already helped themselves to her money, but luckily she told my sister-in-law about her "new credit card" that she got for a chance to win a million dollars, and now we can try to put a stop to this abuse of the elderly. I am putting the word out so other people or their loved ones don't lose money because the man ("Charles Washington") was "so nice to me!"
Major scam! Don't fall for it. They wanted to have my Mother go to Walmart and buy a $5000.00 gift card to pay the taxes on her new Cadillac that they said she had just won and then send it to them. They called her 10 times today until I told them to talk to my lawyer. Then I called the police, and the police told us that they more than likely read about my father's death and targeted her because they know people are vulnerable after a death. PURE EVIL!
