I received a call from this number yesterday stating that I committed a fraud act and that I have one last chance to fix it. The guy's name was Jeff from the Internet Crime and Control Division. Checked the internet and there was no company like that.
There have been a number of random calls from people with foeign accents that have threatened me. They also know private information on me such as my SS# and employer.
I do have a Fraud Alert on my credit reports and I have reported these people to the Federal Trade Commission. I know how collectors legitimately are suppose to collect debt. I do not have any letters sent from such companies. Just random calls. I wish there was really something someone could do about this. This is getting old and how come no one can stop these scams?
It's embarrasing to my employer and I had to let all those answering the phones know of such frauds.
Maybe these people don't even know what they're doing? They have a very "keen" South Asian or Indian - Pakistani type accent. They go by more of American names - some they cannot event pronounce themselves and they tell you that they are gong to have you arrested unless you settle with them on monies you will now even know about, including other costs. They always have some number you have to return that brings you to a busy or no longer in service number. They cannot give you a website or location. Once I was able to get one an address from them but the address belonged to another company that had nothing to do with them. Once I asked them for their website and they didn't know what to say and brought some other person to the phone to deal with me. Gosh, when are these people going to stop?
The number I received a call from yesterday was 718-880-7553. I called that number this morning and a recording was on stating that it belonged to Jeff of the Internet Crime and Control Division.
