Repeated calls on Saturday April 26th 2008 between 2:00-3:00PM from this number. The (718) area code appears to be from New York. (reference http://www.areacodedownload.com/)
I picked up the phone for this number (I used to know someone living in New York and recognized the area code) but did not say any greeting to them. My reason for not saying anything was to find out if the caller was a machine or human. (If I said something to a machine, the machine will begin speaking. Since I said nothing, there was silence, thus I knew it was a most likely a machine.) Usually if a doctor is calling a patient or some other important call they will say "Hello?" even if the receiver(me) does not say anything. This 718# did not say anything at all. I assume they were a telemarketer using a machine.
They called me 3 times after I hung up on them. For these following calls I did not pick up. I put them on my reject list.
However calling them back the phone did ring - it was not a busy signal, but then the call was rejected after what seemed to be a long dial. Calling them when my phone calls are free.
I usually do not pick up for numbers I do not recognize - that is a good idea b/c many unknown calls are "annoyance" calls like (A)telemarketers or (B)a person trying to scam you to make money or (C)someone wanting to harass you for fun.
It is a good idea not to pick up the phone for unknown numbers... See why in the link http://800notes.com/articles/Article.aspx/rdW5JZ0R-QAOLQjJbN7ErA which is credited to this site. And I highly suggest reading it if you want to prevent or stop certain people from calling you.
