Claimed to be IRS. Very heavy Indian accented man tried to tell me the IRS office was in Colorado. He refused to give his name, office, or any other by law required identification. He just kept asking me in pretty much a screaming voice if I was [insert name he couldn't pronounce here]. Several red flags went up, especially when I was pretty sure I heard barnyard noises in the background. I live in the country and it sounded like a cow to me. I called the IRS to verify his claims and I ended up having to file a report about the scam. Apparently the IRS knows about the phone scam as the warning about it is front and center on the tigta website I listed below. Call 1-800-366-4484 to report by phone, though good luck, the mailbox is almost always full. Also go to www.tigta.gov and fill out the very brief fraud form.
