This is clearly as scam robocall and is possibly one of the growing number of 'say yes' scams. It was a recorded message (that sounded live) asking 'can you hear me'. What legitimate business or caller would say this without introducing themselves or refer to you by name? When I asked who was calling, there was a pause and the 'can you hear me' prompt came on again. That is when I hung up. Be VERY careful about this type of call that starts with a question where the answer is 'yes': This is newer scam in which your 'yes' answer is recorded and then used as a consent for some type of other scam. An easy answer is just to ask: 'Can I ask who is calling, or, can I ask what this is about'? If they won't clearly tell you, just hang up and block the number. Also, give VERY little room for the person to ask anything about you. Legitimate businesses/groups just don't operate this way.
Woman called - claimed I had won a "free" gift card to the store of my choice - and then ran off a list of various businesses - including Walmart, Target and Walgreen - all I had to do was tell her which of the businesses was my favorite. I told her that I never shopped at any of those stores and could not possibly use a "gift" card from any of them. She didn't ask me if I could hear her - but I HAVE heard about one scam going around where the caller asks "can you hear me" and IF you say "yes" - the caller will take that as a "yes" answer to whatever it is she wants to sign you up for - so do NOT say "yes" if anyone asks if you can hear them - say something like "what do you want?" or "what was that you said?" After I told her several times that I didn't shop at ANY of those stores and could NOT use a gift card - she just kept asking the same question over and over - so I hung up on her. It was like she was determined NOT to hear me say I didn't shop at those stores and couldn't use a gift card for any of them.
