Called my office and asked the receptionist for me and said they needed to deliver legal documents. Really?! My receptionist put me on hold to ask me about it because she knows I get a ton of these scam calls. While they were on hold they hung up... surprise suprise. I called back on a blocked number and it has a busy signal.
When have you ever known a person delivering legal documents to have a busy signal?! Also, if you have something to deliver and you can find my work phone Im sure you can find my address to MAIL IT TO ME!
They are either scammers or VERY unprofessional idiots that dont know how to do their jobs. Im not sure which one is worse.
The caller was very rude, and gave me ANOTHER # to call, (that comes back as spam), and Todd me they had legal documents to deliver. I asked why they wouldn't just send them.certified mail if that were true, and she got belligerent.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
Ok first got a call yesterday from 469-546-2381 saying they needed to deliver civil court documents. Gave me a number to call which was 855-218-7628 and a case number. Called them and she said she was with national mediatio and i have civil court documents that needed to be served and i asked what the matter was over. She asked me to give her the last two of my social to verify and i refused. She said she couldnt provide me with any info unless i did and i asked what the name of her company was again. She said it and told me to listen closely so she didnt have to repeat herself. I said for one i am and i am writing it down and she hung up! Then today got a call from this 720-377-2960 number saying the same as the 469 number. I asked his name and he said it was joey. Asked what his address was and he told me he didnt have one. I said ur company doesnt have an address? And he said he could give me the main office number and case number that i would have to call and i told him i knew this was spam and that the number will be traced bc i have a friend who is a lawyer. He hung up. I tried to call it back...its giving a busy signal. These low lifes need to get off their behinds and find a real job instead of trying to rob people of their money.
Just called to say they need to deliver legal documents to some else. Same people who called yesterday from 469-546-2381 advising the same thing. I hate these calls.
