I work for the Court system in New Jersey. Process servers will NOT call you before they show up at your home. They will serve you at your work if that have that information before they would call and schedule a "home visit."
Papers HAVE to be filed with the court system first in order for them to serve you with anything. I had those same people call me, I have no idea why, can't seem to get any information from them. If I have a debt that is owed that I don't remember, then tell me what it is and we can work it out but they are not forthcoming, they just keep saying people are coming, when's a good time.
It is not legal for people to threaten with anything. The Fair Debit Collection Act prohibits that.
Ever since I changed our phone plan from AT&T to Verison through Costco we have been getting these calls with the same scenario from all over the country. Do not have any debit, and they are asking for a relative. What I don't understand is how these companies got our cell phone numbers? Which company gave out the cell phone number information? Verison, AT&T or Costco?
They call and never leave a massage, their intimidation to people is illegal , so if they can't and won't give any info to folks, then they can go sit on a road cone.
