I am the mother of two teenagers, if they aren't both home I answer *all* numbers. Also have an elderly mother who has a tendency to fall a lot and hates using her cane. So if she isn't with me I tend to answer numbers I don't recognize. I would rather deal with an annoying automated call than risk missing an important one.
Received a call from this number.... Automated call, used scare tactic buzz words/phrases like, "The FBI reports..." and "Your local police department wants you to protect yourself." The recording offered free installation of a high end yet un-named security system if I allowed them put a sign up in my yard. No company name was mentioned, no number given. Push 1 to qualify-kind of thing. My friend's husband who's a local cop over-heard and asked about the call. He said that it could have been a sales call but they also were informed of a couple scams going on... What they call "free-installation" can sometimes be more like, "What we are really doing is casing your house..." or "We offer free installation but hope you won't read the small print that makes you obligated to huge set-up fees if you sign." He suggests people be careful with anyone on the phone that tries to get you to by something with a automated recording or that won't send you information in writing. If they don't notify you of a company or product name during the recording, don't press anything, just hang up.
I don't answer unknown #, Anytime u apply online like school, insurance and etc., You will get a lot of calls, WTBS who wants to answer the phone every 5mins not me.
these bastids have some nerve. I don't know who they are but what I do in ALL cases of unsolicited calls is I call the number back scores of times via the phone option (which is free) attached to all Gmail windows. Between Christmas and today (3 days total, 2013) I called them over 50 times. They finally block the number, which, by the way, is untraceable. If we all call them ten or twenty times to harass them the way they unconsciounably harass us they WILL get the message.
