***SCAM***     I've gotten several calls from this number over the past few weeks.  Always a recorded message saying a formal complaint has been filed and paperwork will be served. Then tells me to call 844-373-5949.  I'm still waiting to be served...  LOL The number is listed under the name Henry Ramsey according to my Caller ID.

Definitely a scam.  Same message, but the number came up UPS.  I answered since I am expecting a package.

The only reason I answered this call was because a distant family member has same name. Same spiel as previous reports wants me to call about Papers being served on formal complaint. Given 844-373-5949 as a call back number. I have filed complaints with every Gov. Agency FTC etc: These scams are preying on usually older folks like me that grew up when you could, sort of, trust people and there were no fake or disguised phone numbers. Just be aware of calls you don't recognize the number it's either a scam or a telemarketer, Oh and the Government Do not call program never has worked. And file complaints everywhere you can, if enough are filed on a scammer sometimes the Gov. does take a little action.

ID themselves as Direct Consumer Group..  Lady would not give me any more information.  This "Henry Ramsey" persona appears
on other numbers on 800notes also.  He uses the same sort of package delivery  scam.  The 844-373-5949 mentioned above as a
call back also uses CIDs of Direct Consumer Group and United Process Servers.

Extensive history of debt scamming on 800notes.

Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.

If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:

1.    Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2.     Demand a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.
3.    Do not pay  the collection agent or anyone else a  dime until the debt is validated

Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.

If they are bothering you, report them:

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a  violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.)  The same goes for endless telephone harassment.

Also contact your local attorney general

If they continue to bother you,  and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.

You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.  Tell 'em  no scammy debt collector is going to push you around.

You have to get tuff with these people because,  being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking).   the only thing they understand.

BBB gives them no rating with no complaints, but the file was only opened in March of 2017:  https://www.bbb.org/central-texas/business-re ... h-tx-1000135259
I can find no state registrations under that name which means that they cannot legally conduct business.
Further, the address is a Regus virtual office building which means these crooks could be located anywhere.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Read up on your rights here and also make a complaint at this government site:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
List of State AG’s offices:   http://800notes.com/faq/attorney-general

In addition, Texas requires debt collectors to be licensed and to put up a bond.  I would suggest filing a report with the Texas AG as well.
