Our landlines are no longer ours.  They belong to the telemarketers and politicians during election times.
I no longer answer any of them but I resent the time they take from my landline.  Senior citizens need their landlines!  It is amazing to me that nothing can be done about it.  The do not call list is not working and I understand why;  they would have to have a staff of a million to track down these telemarketers and scam callers. (the political calls are legal, but a nuisance too).  I wish we could barrage our legislators to outlaw these calls altogether and give us our landlines back.  I am making a list and will send it to my representative..I must have at least 50 calls this past two weeks, none of them personal, all telemarketers or scammers.  It won't go anywhere but if all of us sent letters to our reps it might help..
