This seems to be part of a legitimate credit fraud watchdog service, provided by a 3rd party vendor to several banks/ credit unions. (tied to phone # 800-437-9392) However, scammers can duplicate legitimate phone numbers on their phone equipment, so you can take the following steps to protect yourself:
1) Banks, etc will NEVER ask for your full social security number - sometimes they will ask for the last 4 digits.
2) When in doubt, don't answer the caller - instead, hang up and then call the fraud number on the back of your credit card.
3) Banks/ financial institutions will not threaten you or demand payment for "preventing fraud"
This was a legitimate call from Fraud Service Center. Actually intercepted credit card fraud on my account. As noted in prior post, NEVER give your full social security number. A legitimate company already has your number and only needs the last 4 numbers for verification.
