Lone stranger,
The problem is they keep changing the number they are using. I've blocked about 15 of them now - every time I do, they just switch to a different number.
This is the second day in a row I've been called by this (type of) company. The phone rings once or twice then hangs up. All of the calls are coming from Florida area codes and the (spoofed) numbers all end in 9999. I wish there was a way to trap these callers and trace the lines to get their real numbers. It's very frustrating getting this type of interruption day after day.
Prerecorded scam just like everyone else here is stating.
Make sure your phone number is registered on the National Do Not Call List (https://www.donotcall.gov/changeLang.aspx?returnpage=home&lang=en-US) then when they do call, file a formal complaint (https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx).
Also, make sure you dial *57 immediately after the call you. This will initiate a reverse trace for your phone company. After you dial *57, make sure you call your phone company and file a complaint with them!
I get calls from people and I let them know that several attorney general's offices are looking to prosecute them.
The way it works is they take either an upfront fee or they take "payments" that they say they will send to the lender. They never do and you get stuck being foreclosed, sued or more.
Florida - doesn't surprise me. Many of these types of things come out of that state.
News article on these crooks, liars, cheats, and God knows what else those people do

They have been calling me for five years. Always from different numbers. I gave up getting a live person on and telling them to stop calling, they hang up, say they will put me on do not cal list, or once, a guy just laughed at me. I owe no money on credit cards, never have, yet they won't stop calling. every few months, all these years.
