The call is a "Phishing" call, designed to collect as much info about your phone number as possible and to also know if its answered or not. They will ask all kinds of dumb questions, like what washing machine brand your using or if you will vote for a politician currently running for office. Its all about collecting info to list for future calls for either a legitimate marketing call or to scam you . With the many phone type programs/apps available via the internet, its easy for anyone to make a call "appear" as a local business or government agency. These apps allow you to input whatever you want it to disply and ONLY the actual phone Companies know the true origin of the callers. They wont easily give out the info, even to government agencies, since its a "freedom of speech" right and nobody can make them violate this, except a Court Order.
They "spoof" a business number or one out of circulation or simply make it appear unavailable by adding a few digits accepted by the phone companies. This number appeared on my CallID as +17321285623, and displayed as "Name Unavailable", They do this so if you attempt to call back, you cant, since its not a valid US phone number.
So if you get a call asking "off-the-wall" questions, just hang up...or if your in a gaming mood, have fun and tell them some off the hook answers! :)
